CHOCA run arts activities in / near Lisbon. We have already run arts activities in centres for senior citizens, primary and high schools, art and cultural centres, junte fregsias, community centres etc.

1 / 4: CRE8IVE WRITING ACTIVITIES
OBJECTIVE: to encourage people of all levels to simply ‘have a go’ at writing. A variety of activities to get people to write – often breaking as many writing / grammar rules as possible.
Writing Level: all levels from novice to professional writer equally welcome.
Level of English: intermediate to native English speaker.
Length: 90 / 120 mins.

A1: Drawing Faces to Music Workshops
Draw faces (ur own, from photos, each others) while listening to music: eg draw without taking your pencil off the paper, draw each other but not at the paper, the photo upside down etc

Community Theme Mural (on giant paper) Passers-by draw and write based on a theme on a giant paper eg: Happy Birthdays, International Human Rights Day etc)

B2: Scrap Paper Art Gallery Especially popular for people who feel they can’t draw
Participants drew on scrap paper – bus tickets, back of envelops etc., which are then tacked up on the wall. I first did this for a restaurant’s birthday event and even people who usually say ‘I cant draw’ joined in)

B3: Smallest Gallery in the Universe Especially popular with children
Participants drew on very tiny paper ( an A4 photocopy paper folded into tiny shapes – rectangles, squares, triangles, circles etc. and every1 draws on them for an immediate gallery

B4: Thematic Gallery Especially popular for people who love to draw
This gallery I often have side be side either the smallest gallery or Scrap Gallery especially for those who actaully love and want to draw.

3 / 4: Painting activities Paint Attack ‘ART ATTACK’: In groups of 3s / 4s each group is given art equipment: paints, pens, brushes and a giant card ( 1m x 1m50cm ) . Now each group produces its work of art!
Painting Music with Feelings:
Explore your emotions by discussion, music and painting. There is a group chat on some 10 or so emotions ( eg: unrequited love, relaxing on Friday nite, crisis etc.) Then there is a piece of music – classical / jazz / ethnic, related to the discussion ( eg a rousing Beethoven piece, Indian sitar music, be bop jazz, Tibetan wailing, Irish reels, African chanting etc.) and the participants paint their feelings on old newspaper… Sounds crazy? Yes it is! A whole lot of fun and even the occasional tear!
